Support our very own Ali-G as he attempts to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for the Malcolm Sargent House in Prestwick as part of the Allister Boyd Challenge. The Challenge takes place on the 15 June 2010.

We thought we would give you some facts and all you need to know about Mount Kilimanjaro (Ali-G, we advise you look away now)!!

  • In 1889, German geographer Hans Meyer and Austrian mountain climber Ludwig Purtscheller were the first to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro.
  • There are many disputed theories on the origin of the name, so it still remains a mystery to this day.
  • It is situated 3 degrees, or about 340 km, south of the Equator.
  • It is the tallest free-standing mountain rise in the world, rising 15,100 feet (4,600 meters) from its base.
  • Around 25,000 people per year attempt to summit the top of Africa.
  • Area: 60 miles long & 40 miles wide, including all three separate volcanoes.

As we stand at the moment we commentate Live Ayr & Killie matches, have Live Gaiety Theatre programmes, 24/7 music and chat from the studio's, of which is just a small selection of activities that happen from Ayr Hospitals Radio. We Broadcast to 3 hospitals at present, Ayr Hospital, Biggart Hospital and Ailsa Hospital.

If you have a relative or friend in the hospitals and can't make it in to see them, we can send your wishes to them on your behalf. Contact us by email and we will do the rest for you, it's that easy!
